Red Cross Shelter Nursing Kit and First Aid Station is quickly becoming the national standard for disaster preparedness and shelter management for groups up to 500 people. Please note: This kit is only available for purchase to Red Cross Chapters. Please see our other great shelter and advanced kits if you are not an ARC chapter. This kit was designed and perfected specifically for ARC based upon their requirements and protocols at  Red Cross shelters or running first aid stations for different events.

Supplied to not only to handle dozens of minor injuries and ailments but also to respond to more serious or life-threatening injuries until advanced care can arrive for transport.

This disaster shelter kit was specially designed by our disaster expert who has actually run several disaster shelters (One shelter with up to 2,000 people).

Every ARC Chapter should at minimum, have a disaster shelter nursing kit for each County and one for each potential shelter ready for use.

The days of waiting for shelter supplies to arrive from out of state are over. When a disaster shelter is activated, it needs to be supplied and set up with in 2-3 hours. Each chapter should have at least some supplies and organization to immediately open two shelters for 500 people each.

Unfortunately most Red Cross Chapters don't have the supplies on hand or staff to set up a shelter of more than 100 people, much less opening multiple shelters across a counties without additional supplies (sometimes trucked days away from the disaster)

Our ARC Shelter Kit have been purchased and used across the country for years. They have been used in Super Storm Sandy and other disasters.  It functions as a one-kit solution when setting up the shelter and will handle dozens of minor injuries and ailments as well as a major injury.  Laypeople and skilled professionals alike have appreciated the generous selection.

The kit can be set up in a small area (10 x 15 room space, or partitioned private area) as the nurse station just add signage.  Also designed to be used for injuries when help may be delayed and with all age groups.

The Westcot Bariatric Patient Cot was introduced at the behest of various agencies that needed to support the bariatric population who sought shelter at traditional evacuation centers during hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. They need a light weight, portable and reusable product which offered comfort and safety for bariatric citizens.

Its use can be expanded to allow multiple children as well as parents to sleep comfortably while not occupying multiple cots. Please like to push the cots together but it creates traffic flow problems. This disaster cot is built wider, taller and longer and tested beyond its 700 pound weight capacity rating to ensure you can provide the best solution in a portable / emergency sleeping cot.

We recommend 6 bariatric cots per shelter of 500 people. One could also be placed in the Shelter First Aid / medical station. Ask us about rolling carts made to make deployment and assembly fast and easy.

  • For Emergency First Aid Stations on disasters or special events: 3-5 FNC cots (see our additional cot recommendations)

Note Ordering Cots During a Disaster:

Understand that manufacturers don't have thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of cots and blankets sitting in warehouses waiting for the next disaster. Much of the disaster supplies they do have on-hand are already on contract for agencies that did plan for an emergency.

During a Disaster:

A.) Any available stock will go very quickly
B.) Is on a first come first serve basis - based upon payment.
C.) Usually will be gone within 24 hours.

Disaster contractors know this when they sign agency contracts, but still try to order only when the disaster strikes. Large disasters occur around the country almost every month. Manufacturers also can't ramp up to meet a large request and fabricate finished product in days. Our point is that your organization / agency should plan for, budget, order and locally store emergency supplies like disaster cots before a disaster strikes your community. .  Ask us about how can help you prepare for a disaster and also how we can supply your needs during an event.
